Julio Llamazares es autor de novelas, guiones de cine, libros de viajes, artículos periodísticos, libros de poesía y de algún otro libro de difícil clasificación. Luna de lobos fue la primera novela que publicó el autor y es justo considerarla un clásico de la novela española del siglo XX. Se aborda en ella, teniendo como escenario la Guerra Civil, el eterno conflicto humano de la animalización del hombre acosado por otros hombres, añadiendo un nuevo protagonista, el huido, el guerrillero maqui. Luna de lobos, por la fecha en que fue escrita, 1985, constituye una punta de lanza contra el olvido, la desmemoria y el tupido velo de silencio que la Transición dispuso alrededor de la represión franquista.
